Fight through a haunting journey of sin and suffering in this short top-down story game inspired by Christian themes and the crucifixion. The Bloody Cross was solo developed over the course of 4 months from conception to release.
The dialogue system for the game was based around the narrative scripting language Ink and a text-effects library to get the rhythms of the dialogue.
As a solo developer with a limited time frame, I went with a hand-drawn art style with a very optimized workflow for getting assets in the engine.
Pretty much all the art in the game is hand-drawn on paper and inked. I would take a photo of it, throw it into Krita, add an invert filter and some color adjustments, and export at the game's target resolution. The resulting art style stands out quite well and worked very well within the limitations of the project.
